There and Back [2008]

Video 02″45′ 2008

Music by Matthijs Vos

There and Back is an experimental video mixing multiple genres were the characters have been through a bad dream (there) and back from it.It is about the undercurrent fear we live in the world today and was loosely inspired on the book “The Road” by Cormac McCarthy. A man journeying across a post-apocalyptic landscape, experiencing a world in severe trauma after a great, unexplained cataclysm. Civilization has been destroyed, along with most life; the precise fate of the rest of the earth is not made clear, though the implication is that the disaster has affected the entire planet. Ash covers the surface of the earth; in the atmosphere, it obscures the sun and moon, and the traveller breathes through a mask to filter it out. As in Cormac McCarthy’s book he aims to reach the sea and reunite with his son. Adapted material form The Last Man on Earth, 1964. Director: Ubaldo Ragona (Creative Commons License: Public Domain).
